Introducing our 2024 Illustrator in Residence: Cabbi Charles

We are proud to introduce our first Jericho Prize Illustrator in Residence, the supremely talented Cabbi Charles.

Cabbi, a London-based creative, is also a Jericho Prize 2021 finalist, so we are thrilled to have her back to support the project this year.

Throughout 2024, Cabbi will be creating inclusive artwork in various forms, inspired by the Jericho Prize project. She will also be leading Zoom events, writing guest blogs, and sharing her experiences as a children's book creative.

Her illustrations will also make stunning additions to our new-look website. Do check some examples of her beautiful inclusive artwork below.

About the new Jericho Prize illustration residency

As the Jericho Prize is currently focused on picture book creation, and as picture books are an equally weighted collaboration between author and illustrator, it seems fitting to select an Illustrator in Residence to complement this. This way we can showcase burgeoning Black-British picture book talent more broadly.

This year's project will run for 32 weeks and, during that time, our resident illustrator will complete several artwork commissions and have opportunities to showcase and share their work and experiences in children's publishing.

This is a paid residency as we are committed to supporting the Creators' Rights Alliance's Pay the Creators initiative.
